Terrament, is a clean-tech startup based in Brooklyn, NY.

Their solution aims to redefine the energy storage landscape with an innovative gravity-based solution. Terrament’s proprietary tech relies on the fundamental physics of height & weight to create energy. As weighted modules fall down a mile deep into the bedrock, they utilize regenerative braking to create & store electricity.

Currently the electric grid is completely reliant on hydro-electric power, but all sources of new hydro power have been tapped out. Terrament takes the same underlying gravity-based approach but leverages present-day mining tech to create new sources of energy anywhere it is needed.

With the intermittent nature of wind and solar power posing challenges to the clean tech revolution, the demand for 24/7 energy storage solutions has become urgent. Terrament offers a low-risk, high-scale solution.

That’s why they’ve been selected to join the CEBIP accelerator program. CEBIP, the Clean Energy Business Incubator Program, is supported by Stony Brook University and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Currently they are a 2023 Fellowship Founder at Newlab.

The Journey

Working with any startup the first task is to understand their product. Founder, Eric Chavez and I went over his investor decks to make sure I understood the technology before creating the animation. These animations here are what they shared with me originally.
